Passengers and driver injured in Chicago motor vehicle accident

Public transportation is a great way to get around a busy city like Chicago. While some bus and rail riders use public transportation because they do not have their own vehicles, others do so because it allows them to avoid the stresses of commuting on often busy, traffic-filled highways. Using public transit puts the responsibility of safe travel in the hands of others, and though accidents with such vehicles are rare, they do occur on the city’s roads and streets.

Recently a CTA bus was hit by a car in Chicago’s Southwest Side. The incident happened near Western Avenue and 49th Street. The negligent driver of the car did not have his vehicle’s lights on and crashed into the back of the bus. As a result of the impact, seven bus passengers and the bus’s driver suffered injuries.

Though none of the injuries were expected to be life-threatening, the victims of this motor vehicle accident were taken to several different hospitals for evaluation. Their conditions were listed as fair to serious. It was not reported if the car’s driver was hurt in the crash.

Accidents can happen with any vehicles and on any roads. Individuals who use public transportation, like these victims, can suffer minor to serious injuries when the buses, trains, and other vehicles they ride in cause or are involved in vehicle crashes. The involvement of a publicly-owned vehicle or vehicle used for public transportation can complicate the manner in which a victim approaches a potential lawsuit for the recovery of his injury-related damages. Those who have cases that involve such parties can benefit from discussing their legal matters with Chicago-based personal injury lawyers.
