Worker dies in construction accident at Chicago Ford plant

by | Jan 14, 2016 | Construction Accidents

Tragedy recently struck the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant on Torrance Avenue. Two men who were involved in a construction project at the facility were near a concrete wall when an eight foot by eight foot part of the wall collapsed upon them. While one of the men escaped with injuries, the other lost his life in the construction accident.

The survivor is in critical condition at a local hospital while the deceased victim of the accident has been identified as a 45-year-old man. Ford has issued a statement in which it has acknowledged the accident as well as the worker’s death and claims to be cooperating with the investigation into the incident.

What makes this story somewhat unique is that the injured and deceased victims were not employees of the Ford plant. Rather, both men were employed by a separate entity that had contracted with Ford to perform work at the assembly plant. Depending upon the specific facts of the agreement between Ford and the contracting construction company, the surviving victim and the family members of the deceased victim may be able to pursue compensation from one or both of the corporations involved with the relevant construction work.

A collapsed wall at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant has taken the life of one man and seriously injured another. The lives of the deceased victim’s family members will never be the same, and in situations such as this it is possible that the injured worker will require long-term assistance to regain the physical capacities he lost in the accident. Construction accidents can sometimes form the basis of personal injury lawsuits when negligence plays a part in the creation of the accidents.
