Car accident whiplash can lead to many health problems

Whiplash occurs when a person’s neck is forced to strain as his head and body are forced in separate directions. Many Chicago residents who have been in fender benders and more serious accidents have experienced whiplash to some degree. For many, whiplash is a discomfort that eventually remedies itself with rest and therapeutic treatments. For others, it lingers as a debilitating ailment that manifests into additional serious conditions.

For example, whiplash can cause pronounced pain in a person’s head, neck, back and shoulders. That pain can be mild to severe, constant or sporadic. It can exist as pain alone, but it may also be associated with numbness and other sensations in the extremities and affected areas of the body.

Whiplash can lead to a lot more than just pain and discomfort as well. The neck includes a portion of the body’s spinal cord, the bundle of nerves that runs from a person’s brain throughout his back body. Whiplash can injure a person’s spinal cord and cause serious problems for his nervous system.

It can also lead to neurological problems in the affected individual. People who have suffered from car accident-related whiplash have experienced dizziness, coordination problems, issues with sleeping and problems with other focused-based activities. What makes whiplash a scary condition is that many car accident victims do not even know that they are suffering from it until hours or even days after they have endured their motor vehicle collisions.

Whiplash is more than just a sore neck. It can cause long-term pain and suffering in a victim of a car accident. The medical expenses associated with treating whiplash can be costly; individuals who are facing medical treatments for whiplash due to car accident injuries may have rights to pursue their damages and costs under personal injury law.
