Man causes fatal car accident while trying to escape cops

| Jun 6, 2014 | Uncategorized

The past rarely stays in the past and some Illinois residents try to do whatever they can to avoid the consequences of their prior actions. While some attempt to shirk familial obligations, others try to evade legal matters. A recent car accident in Elgin may have occurred for just this reason.

Police in the Illinois community tried to make a traffic stop on an inmate currently out on parole. The inmate was wanted on several warrants but managed to get away from authorities. Though the cops claim they were not pursuing him, the inmate increased his car’s speed and drove through a stop sign.

The inmate’s car then crashed into another vehicle and the male driver of the second car was killed. A passenger in the inmate’s car was also injured in the ordeal. Officers have arrested the inmate who is recovering from his injuries in the hospital.

Car accidents happen for a variety of reasons. The motive for why a person was driving with negligence is rarely relevant to a victim’s right to recover his damages. In this case the family of the deceased victim may be able to recover compensation based on the legal theory of wrongful death if it is able to meet the criteria of the cause of action.

Once the inmate recovers from the car collision he will likely face many legal problems. Ranging from the warrants on which officers originally pursued him to criminal charges related to killing the victim, he could face legal matters in both the civil and criminal courts. His victims may find justice and compensation through the workings of the legal system.
