Although some accidents are simply just that, an accident, a negligent driver could be a serious risk on the roadways. In Illinois, if a driver fails to uphold a certain standard of care, they could cause a serious or even fatal car accident. Whether a driver is traveling too fast, texting while driving, is distracted or fails to maintain their lane, these negligent actions could significantly affect those involved as well as their loved ones.

An automobile collision recently occurred in Schuyler County, Illinois, and Illinois State Police were dispatched to the scene. According to reports the accident involved two vehicles and occurred on U.S. 67. The crash resulted in the death of one driver and injured another.

A 28-year-old driver allegedly failed to maintain control of her vehicle. This caused her to drive off of the road and onto the right hand shoulder. This resulted in the driver overcorrecting her automobile, causing the car to cross into the southbound lanes and collide with a truck.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the crash and assessed those involved. Both drivers were transported to the hospital. Authorities later reported that the driver that lost control of her vehicle did not survive her injuries. The condition of the truck driver was not reported at this time.

An investigation is ongoing, and once completed, authorities may be able to establish cause and liability. If the driver at fault does not survive the accident, those injured in the accident could still file a claim against that driver’s estate. A personal injury claim could provide the victim with compensation that could be used to cover associated expenses such as medical bills, lost wages, damages and pain and suffering.

Those affected by a negligent driver should understand that they might have a cause of action. This requires an understanding of their situation and options available. Furthermore, this will help protect their rights and preserve their interests while also helping them alleviate their financial hardships.
