Chicago man struck by car while crossing street

| Dec 20, 2013 | Uncategorized

Here in Chicago most people try to obey crosswalk signage and lights to avoid getting hit by cars. With wide crosswalk paths and activation buttons that tell a light when a pedestrian is ready to go, most Chicago streets are fairly safe to cross for both cars and pedestrians.

A local man was not so fortunate, however, when he attempted to cross Water Street in the Streeterville area of Chicago. At approximately 2 o’clock in the morning, the man attempted to cross the road when he was hit by a driver who alleges to have had a green light. The driver was cited by police for failing to avoid the victim.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and suffered serious head and body injuries in the collision. It is unclear what medical treatment he received to repair the physical damages he suffered from being hit by a car.

When police have a chance to speak with the victim they may hear a different story than they heard from the driver of the involved vehicle. Though pedestrians should cross streets when they have the right of way, drivers on Chicago roads must also take responsibility for their operating conduct and do whatever they can to prevent collisions with pedestrians.

Car accidents are a common problem around the city and every day people are hurt when their vehicles hit other cars, bicycles and pedestrians. While sometimes their injuries are minor, other times they suffering major problems like the victim in this story. Individuals who have been injured in car accidents may seek compensation for their damages against the individuals who caused them to face harm.
