It is an important lesson that most children are forced to master before they are allowed to play outdoors without parental supervision. Parents here in Chicago and across the country encourage their kids to look both ways before stepping out on to roadways. With so many people and cars located here in the metropolitan area, it is sometimes the lesson that saves some people from becoming accident victims.

In a sad story from the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, a two-year-old girl suffered catastrophic injuries when she was hit by a car. The girl and her grandmother, who was pushing a stroller, were on South Morgan Street when the early morning fatal accident occurred.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the incident, leaving the girl and others in the street. He was later found by law enforcement officers and arrested for his involvement in the hit and run car accident. Although the girl was transported to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, she was pronounced dead shortly after the accident.

While Chicago car accidents claim too many lives each year it is especially tragic when children are injured and killed. This incident is believed to have been drunk driving accident and it may have been preventable if the driver had been more responsible and not decided to get behind the wheel in a possible state of intoxication. An accident investigation may reveal more details on the condition of this individual at the time the girl was struck.

While her grandmother and others struggle with the emotional impact of losing such a young child, parents around Chicago may be reminded of how dangerous car-pedestrian accidents can be. Though legal rights do exist for individuals injured by the recklessness of others, many accidents can be prevented through exercising caution.
