Illinois school buses involved in auto accident

With school out for the summer, many Chicago-area kids are attending summer camps in order to stay active through the season. One of the advantages that many camps offer is the opportunity to take field trips to local events and attractions. Such field trips often give kids fun experiences that they would otherwise miss out on if they spent their summers at home.

More than seven dozen people, including 73 children, were affected by the collision of two school buses that were transporting them to a local beach outing. The children were all attending a day camp run by the Des Plaines park district and were accompanied by 12 adults when one bus collided into the other. The buses were traveling at approximately 15-20 miles per hour when they hit and 7 children were taken to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries.

Though none of the accident victims were seriously injured, they will now have incurred medical expenses for the treatment of their injuries. As shown by this incident, auto accidents do not have to be major to significantly impact many people and as investigators sort out the details of the crash more information on the responsible party’s liability may be discovered.

A variety of parties may eventually be found liable for causing the accident. A report suggests that one of the buses may have been cut off by a third party driver and that the cut off bus then had to brake quickly. It is also possible that one or both of the drivers’ negligence led to the crash. Finally, a defect in the maintenance of one or both of the buses may have contributed to the incident. A determination of liability may direct the accident victims in determining if they will seek legal remedies against the responsible parties for the recovery of their losses.
