Chicago Cubs player loses 1 relative, 3 friends in car accident

Baseball season is winding down and fans of the Chicago Cubs and White Sox are anxiously waiting to see which teams will qualify for the post season. In the coming week, however, a star player for one of those teams will likely be absent from his position at shortstop. His absence will not be due to injury or illness, but rather grief as he copes with the devastation of a tragic car accident.

Three friends and one relative of Cubs player Starlin Castro were killed when their car was struck by a truck's trailer. The accident happened in Castro's native Dominican Republic. The four men, as well as Castro's brother who was traveling in a different vehicle, were planning to go fishing.

Car accidents can cause wide-reaching heartbreak. Even though he was thousands of miles away when the accident took place, Castro will still feel the impact of losing four cherished companions. He may choose to utilize the National Baseball League's seven day bereavement period as he copes with his pain and suffering.

Though his story may be in the news due to his public status, Castro's grief is not exclusive to only the rich and famous. Every day Chicago residents lose loved ones in motor vehicle crashes and suffer the repercussions of negligent drivers. For those who lose loved ones in Illinois, certain legal claims exist that may provide them with compensation for their losses.

When Castro returns to baseball it will undoubtedly be with a heavy heart. Anyone who has had a loved one perish in a car accident can relate to his pain. As he carries his team toward their playoff dreams, he will have to contain his sorrow over the tragedy that robbed him of four close loved ones.
