Avid Chicago bicyclist killed by automobile

Chicago is well known for its harsh winters and biting lake-effect snow. During the winter months, most locals find every possible way to avoid being outside and experiencing the sub-zero temperatures that afflict the city’s most brutal weather season. However, some residents willingly tackle the challenges of winter by foot and on bicycle for their daily commutes just as they do during spring and summer’s more temperate climates.

One such avid bicyclist was recently killed in a car accident that occurred on Larrabee Street in the River North part of the city. The 26 year old man was struck by a single car while riding his bike a little after 6:30 p.m. during commute hours. The driver of the vehicle that police believe caused the crash stayed at the scene of the accident and the victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he later died from his serious injuries.

The victim’s co-workers at Groupon were seriously affected by his passing. Noting that the victim had a great personality and was originally from out of state, their sadness exemplifies the pain and suffering that the friends and families of car accident victims suffer when they lose loved ones.

Chicago police are still looking into what caused the fatal accident. While the driver who is believed to be involved in the accident was taken into custody by law enforcement, an accident investigation will provide more information on what caused the crash. Once liability is determined for the responsible party, surviving family members of the victim may consider filing a lawsuit for damages against those who caused the victim’s death.

While the victim will be fondly remembered by his co-workers as a committed cyclist and kind individual, his absence will profoundly impact the lives of those who loved him. While seeking damages against responsible parties cannot bring back victims of fatal car accidents, such lawsuits can help survivors recoup the costs of recovery and bring attention to senseless and often avoidable vehicle collisions.
