Birth Asphyxia and Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a chronic condition affecting muscle coordination. Birth asphyxia is one of the causes of cerebral palsy. The brain damage caused by birth asphyxia can result in loss of muscle coordination, learning disability, vision impairment, sensory problems and mental retardation. Birth asphyxia can also lead to seizures and impaired neurological functioning.

Appropriate monitoring and delivery by emergent caesarean section may prevent injuries caused by birth asphyxia. Other conditions such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, infection, placenta previa or umbilical cord problems may cause severe injury or death to the mother or child if not timely recognized and appropriate interventions are not instituted.

When a birth injury occurs, parents are often left to wonder how such a mistake happened. Our attorneys have extensive experience identifying the mistakes that were made during labor and delivery. We are committed to our clients and to holding negligent parties accountable for their harmful actions.

Call Steinberg, Goodman & Kalish to find out how we can help you and your baby. We seek fair compensation to adequately address your child's brain damage and the financial strain this can put on your family.
